Youth Mentor & Support Worker

Crescent Care Blue Mountains NSW

Contract Part time

Key points we found

  • Support a 17-year-old male participant with PTSD as an Independent Youth Mentor.
  • Encourage healthier lifestyle choices and assist with employment training.
  • Build a trusting relationship to foster emotional regulation and confidence.

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a resilient, proactive, and reliable Independent Youth Mentor to support a 17-year-old male participant based in Woodford, NSW.

This is not a standard "care" role. We are looking for a consistent male role model (preferred) or experienced mentor capable of building a trusting relationship with a young person experiencing PTSD. Your goal is to build confidence, support emotional regulation, and prepare him for the workforce.

The Role & Key Goals

You will work collaboratively with the participant’s family to ensure safety and well-being.

Key focus areas include:

  1. Trauma-Informed Support: Managing challenging behaviours and supporting emotional development for a young person with PTSD.
  2. Health & Lifestyle: Actively encouraging healthier food choices (avoiding processed/fast food) and engaging in exercise/personal hygiene routines.
  3. Future Pathways: Assisting with employment training and engaging with employment agencies (e.g., YES or APM).
  4. Meaningful Engagement: Being "tech-savvy" to connect with his interests while encouraging offline confidence building.

Contractor Requirements (Must Have)

To be engaged as an independent contractor for this specific role, you must provide:

  1. ABN & Insurances: Valid ABN and your own Professional Indemnity/Public Liability insurance.
  2. Experience: Demonstrated experience working with young people, specifically those with trauma and challenging behaviours
  3. Qualifications: Currently holding (or working towards) a qualification in Youth Work, Community Services, or extensive field experience.
  4. WWCC & Police Check: Valid Working with Children Check (Essential) and National Police Check.
  5. Transport: Valid Unrestricted Australian Driver’s Licence.
  6. Safety: Current Senior First Aid and CPR certificate.

About You

  1. Consistent & Resilient: You show up when you say you will. You don't give up easily when behaviours become challenging.
  2. Firm but Fair: You can hold boundaries regarding diet and lifestyle choices (e.g., requiring family consent before purchasing processed foods) while maintaining a positive relationship.
  3. Proactive: You don't wait for instructions; you bring ideas for activities and skill-building.
