Position Overview

The Surveyor will be responsible for planning, directing, and executing survey operations and managing spatial data critical to project development. This role ensures accurate site measurement, land boundary delineation, and the effective presentation of geographic and spatial information for internal teams, clients, and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Determine precise locations of physical and natural features, including ground elevations, construction layouts, and property boundaries.
  2. Supervise the creation of plans, maps, and diagrams for use in construction planning and regulatory approvals.
  3. Manage spatial information systems and maintain accurate geospatial databases.
  4. Undertake research to improve survey methodologies, photogrammetric measurements, and spatial data applications.
  5. Collaborate with architects, engineers, planners, and environmental scientists on technical spatial data requirements.
  6. Prepare and interpret site surveys, subdivision plans, and geospatial reports necessary for planning approvals and land ownership.
  7. Analyse satellite imagery, aerial photography, and historical records to inform current project assessments.
  8. Use geographic information systems (GIS) and computer-aided design (CAD) tools to generate visual representations such as 3D models, maps, and plans.
  9. Evaluate new technologies and tools for implementation into surveying and mapping procedures.
  10. Coordinate and mentor survey technicians in the preparation and reproduction of geographic products.

Key Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Spatial Science, Geomatics, or a related field.
  2. Minimum 1 year work experience in land surveying or spatial data analysis, preferably in the construction or infrastructure sector.
  3. Proficiency in GIS, AutoCAD, and other spatial software.
  4. Strong understanding of land tenure, cadastral systems, and spatial legislation in WA.
  5. Ability to interpret and apply technical standards, codes of practice, and regulatory requirements.
  6. Excellent communication skills for collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  7. Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.

Desirable Attributes

  1. Registration or eligibility for registration with a professional body such as the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI).
  2. Experience working on civil and commercial construction projects.
  3. Familiarity with Western Australia’s land planning frameworks and local government requirements.
