Why Your Role Matters:
The Mathematics & Physics Student Support Advisor plays a key role improving the progression, retention and learning experience of students.  In regular consultation with the Mathematics and Physics Discipline Coordinators and the Learning and Teaching Group, the role provides proactive assistance across all aspects of pre- and first/second- year university Mathematics and Physics.

Accountabilities:

  • Contribute to and enhance planning, performance, outputs, and innovation within and on behalf of the School of Science’s Mathematics and Physics support program.
  • Develop and maintain proactive relationships with key discipline staff across the schools and relevant stakeholders.
  • Develop and deliver Maths and Physics support to the specified cohorts of students in alignment with other discipline offerings at UNSW to enhance student success.
  • Provide management and operational advice to the Mathematics and Physics support staff to ensure operational delivery is at the highest level.
  • Engage with and support students in a positive and supporting environment.
  • Develop and maintain teaching material.

Who You Are (skills and experience): 

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Physics, Mathematics, or a related discipline with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Knowledge of, at a minimum, first-year university Mathematics and Physics with experience teaching students transitioning from secondary to tertiary studies.
  • Experience with development of teaching materials, including online teaching materials. Experience working in Educational/Instructional Design is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage moderately complex tasks/projects under pressure with strong attention to detail, a high level of accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills appropriate to working in a professional manner with students and staff from diverse backgrounds in a range of contexts and settings.
