About the role

As a key technical specialist, this role is responsible for identifying and implementing condition monitoring solutions that enhance the performance, reliability, and compliance of the PTA’s rail network. You’ll provide expert engineering support across a range of functions, contributing directly to the operational performance of the branch and the reliability of critical assets. You’ll also play an active role in building a positive safety culture and supporting continuous improvement through your insights, technical competence, and engagement with divisional and branch objectives.

This position offers a diverse range of responsibilities, including providing technical leadership on design and documentation, supporting asset management and renewal programs, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and standards. You’ll contribute to the development of technical specifications, risk management practices, and safety investigations, while also liaising with contractors to coordinate condition monitoring activities. About You!

To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • Holds a relevant engineering degree eligible for IEAust membership, or ability to demonstrate substantial rail industry experience in the track discipline. Demonstrated knowledge in project and contract management, risk control, and condition monitoring systems commissioning and operations.
  • Proven ability to deliver engineering expertise across planning, design, maintenance, and construction in asset-intensive environments. Strong background in applying safety management systems, Rail Safety Legislation, and asset management frameworks.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate teams to achieve agreed outcomes and drive performance success.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and produce clear technical reports. Demonstrated analytical and organisational skills, with a proven ability to resolve complex technical issues, manage priorities, and meet deadlines through effective teamwork and delegation.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel and Power BI. Displays high levels of self-awareness, accountability, and commitment to personal development and safety leadership.
