About You :

  • Appropriate tertiary qualification/s and registration/s. Must be registered with AHPRA & provide evidence.
  • Immunisation accreditation (as approved by the relevant State/Territory Health Department)
  • Current driver’s licence and car

Position Summary :

As a Registered Nurse (Immunisation) you are responsible for the smooth and efficient functioning of clinics and to provide an exceptional standard of care to our clients and their staff. As this is a specialty nursing position, you will maintain a professional growth mindset, take advantage of available ongoing professional education provided to you and take responsibility for your ongoing learning.

Key Requirements :

  • Ideally minimum of one year’s nursing experience, preferably in a community-based role
  • Demonstrated experience in the administration of vaccines to adults (the administration of vaccines to babies, infants and adolescents is advantageous but not a mandatory requirement).
  • Sound knowledge of communicable diseases (with a particular focus on influenza), occupational immunisation programs and immunisation practice in workplace and school settings.
  • The ability to manage post-vaccination emergencies with limited assistance.
  • A thorough knowledge of immunisation procedures and practices.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to gain co-operation and assistance from clients.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and set work priorities to achieve set objectives within given timeframes.
  • Well-developed administrative skills with the ability to operate various computer programs.
  • Experience in similar roles as practice nurse or community-based nursing. Background or training in emergency nursing or occupational health nursing highly beneficial
  • Competence in the use of relevant equipment and software (desirable)
  • Sound knowledge of current legislation, practice standards, policies, and procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Sound planning and organisational skills

Job Responsibility :

  • Administer vaccines and conduct immunisation clinics in accordance with VaxWorks Health Services immunisation services protocols and in compliance with the relevant State/Territory requirements and National Health & Medical Research Council (NHMRC) recommendations.
  • Input, maintain and provide relevant records of vaccinations on the VaxWorks immunisation record management system.
  • Maintain adequate supplies of vaccines and consumables for use at immunisation clinics.
  • Ensure vaccines are stored and delivered in accordance with the vaccine management policy (based on National Vaccine Storage guidelines).
  • Provide efficient and effective communication with clients and staff.
  • Keep clients updated with any immediate issues relating to the timeliness of their clinics (eg delays due to traffic etc)
  • Deal with clients, suppliers and other employees professionally at all times
  • Promptly report any incidents.

Personal Development & Conduct

  • Identify and act upon own training and development needs to maintain sufficient currency of practice and knowledge to safely practice as an immunisation nurse.
  • Ensure adherence to company Equal Employment Opportunity, Privacy procedures and other policies and programs.
  • Participate fully in Recruitment and Induction processes.

Clinical

  • Perform clinical duties within required level of clinical competency, according to best available evidence
  • Explain your position and procedures to patients, ensuring consent, providing them with support and reassurance
  • Promote the benefits of immunisation, advice regarding the safety and appropriateness of immunisations and the safe administration of vaccines in accordance with the Australian Immunisation Handbook.
  • Manage vaccines in accordance with the National Vaccine Storage Guidelines
  • Effectively and safely manage immunisation emergencies
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation
  • Maintain stocks of clinical supplies, including correct storage (such as refrigeration of vaccines), regular stock rotation, removal of out-of-date stock and ordering supplies
