Overview

Susquehanna is looking for penultimate year students who are interested in using decision science to solve problems through an internship in Sydney, with the intention to secure a full-time graduate position in our Hong Kong office.

Susquehanna is a global quantitative trading firm powered by scientific rigor, curiosity, and innovation. Our culture is intellectually driven and highly collaborative, bringing together researchers, engineers, and traders to design and deploy impactful strategies in our systematic trading environment. To meet the unique challenges of global markets, Susquehanna applies machine learning and advanced quantitative research to vast datasets in order to uncover actionable insights and build effective strategies. By uniting deep market expertise with cutting-edge technology, we excel in solving complex problems and pushing boundaries together.

Susquehanna’s Trading Internship offers a unique opportunity to learn about quantitative trading. Working from our Sydney office, our interns will experience how our traders use decision science, game theory, and technology to make trading decisions. Our education program combines both classroom and on the ‘trading desk’ training. The goal of the program is to provide interns with a deep exposure to trading, so they can decide if it is what they want to pursue full-time.

 What we offer:

  • Classroom Education: Susquehanna’s in-house education programme is widely recognised as being the best in the industry. You will attend regular seminars to learn about options and the decision-making strategies that our traders employ.
  • Decision Making: using game theory, decision science, poker, and other strategy games. It’s true what you’ve heard!
  • Mock Trading: practice what you have learnt
  • Real Impact: you will work closely with our traders on real-world projects that directly impact our trading business.
  • Culture: Our culture allows employees of every level to thrive. We are not your typical trading firm – the environment is casual, collaborative and we focus on continuous development, no matter how long you’ve been in Susquehanna.
  • Perks: Based in Sydney, on the top two floors of Tower 1 in Barangaroo, our space provides beautiful harbor views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. To name a few of our favourite perks, our employees make the most of our free onsite catering, game room, and social events (company-wide parties, poker tournaments, and Friday night socials).
  • Relocation Support: Upon securing a graduate role, we will cover all relocation expenses to Hong Kong following the completion of your training program.

What we're looking for

  • Eligible to work in Hong Kong: Students studying at an Australian or New Zealand University who are eligible to eventually relocate to Hong Kong.
  • Penultimate Year Student: Confirmed plan to graduate by December 2027 with a degree in any discipline (most typically STEM), Distinction average WAM.
  • Numerate + Logical: When it comes to decision making, you use clear and sound reasoning. You’re rational and like to use numbers and data to come up with sensible solutions.
  • Problem Solvers: You enjoy solving puzzles and love it when you discover a solution to a difficult problem.
  • Communicators: You enjoy building relationships with those you work closely with, and you enjoy sharing ideas, expressing your thoughts, and listening to the views of others.
  • Curious: You’re excited by a career in trading. You don’t need to have studied finance (we’ll teach you what you need to know).

Our Interview Process:
1. Application
2. Online Assessment (Quantitative and problem-solving skills)
3. Phone Interviews (Behavioural and technical)
4. Office Interview (Trader interview, trade floor visit, and office tour)
5. Job Offer
