We are currently seeking a qualified Motor Mechanic (General) to join our busy workshop team on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out mechanical repairs, servicing vehicles, diagnosing faults, and performing routine maintenance across a variety of petrol-powered light vehicles. This position plays an important role in supporting our workshop operations and maintaining the high level of service our customers rely on.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out servicing and repairs on petrol-powered light vehicles, working on major systems such as transmission, steering, suspension and braking components.
- Identify mechanical and electrical problems through detailed inspections and by using electronic diagnostic equipment.
- Dismantle engines and associated components to examine internal parts, detect faults or excessive wear, and determine suitable repair methods.
- Repair or replace damaged components and reassemble vehicle systems in line with manufacturer guidelines and workshop standards.
- Perform scheduled maintenance including oil and filter replacement, lubrication, brake servicing and engine adjustments to ensure safe and efficient vehicle operation.
- Conduct road tests and operational checks after repairs to confirm that vehicles meet safety, performance and road worthy requirements.
- Inspect vehicles and prepare reports outlining recommended repairs or confirming roadworthiness when required.
- Complete tyre and wheel work such as installation, balancing, rotation and wheel alignment using appropriate workshop machinery.
- Check and test vehicle electrical systems, including batteries, starter motors and charging systems, to ensure proper functioning.
- Maintain accurate service records, including details of labour performed, parts used and any repair estimates prepared for customers.
- Ensure the workshop remains clean, organised and compliant with safety procedures at all times.
- Provide guidance and practical support to apprentices or junior mechanics when necessary.
- Cooperate with team members to complete repair work efficiently while maintaining good customer service standards.
Skills and Educational Qualification:
- Relevant trade qualification (Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent)
- At least 1 year of relevant industry experience.
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding abilities across mechanical and electrical systems.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Good communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
- Commitment to workplace safety and maintaining a clean and organised workshop.
