A motor mechanic would be responsible for diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs, and performing routine maintenance to ensure vehicles remain safe, reliable, and operating at peak performance. This includes working on key systems such as engines, brakes, suspension, and tyres, as well as using diagnostic tools to identify and resolve issues efficiently. The role also involves conducting safety checks, maintaining accurate service records, and advising clients or fleet managers on necessary repairs and preventative maintenance. In a fleet-focused environment, the mechanic plays a crucial role in reducing vehicle downtime and ensuring consistent performance across all vehicles.
This is a full-time position that requires a minimum commitment of 38 hours per week
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical faults using advanced diagnostic equipment
- Carefully dismantle engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms, and other essential components. Thoroughly inspect each part for wear, damage, or malfunction, ensuring nothing is overlooked.
- Perform repairs and maintenance on engines, braking systems, suspension, steering, and other key vehicle components
- Carry out routine servicing, including oil changes, inspections, and part replacements
- Conduct tyre services such as fitting, balancing, rotations, and puncture repairs
- Ensure all vehicles meet safety standards through thorough inspections and roadworthy checks
- Supervise and mentor junior mechanics, providing technical guidance and training
- Allocate tasks and manage workshop workflow to ensure efficiency and minimize vehicle downtime
- Oversee quality control, ensuring all repairs and services meet company and industry standards
- Maintain accurate service records, job documentation, and parts inventory usage
- Liaise with clients and fleet managers to provide expert advice on repairs, servicing schedules, and preventative maintenance
- Assist in diagnosing recurring fleet issues and recommend long-term solutions to improve performance and reliability
- Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety regulations and company procedures
Requirements
- Minimum Qualification - Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent)
- Proven at least one year of work experience as a motor mechanic, preferably in a workshop or fleet servicing environment
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills with the ability to handle complex mechanical issues
- Proficiency in using modern diagnostic tools and equipment
- Solid knowledge of vehicle systems including engines, brakes, suspension, and electrical systems
- Experience with tyre fitting, balancing, and general tyre services (preferred)
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship
- Good time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and minimize downtime
- Effective communication skills to interact with team members and clients
- Valid driver’s license (manual preferred)
- Understanding of workplace health and safety regulations
- Ability to supervise or mentor junior staff (for senior roles)
- Flexibility and willingness to adapt to a fast-paced work environment
Salary - $77000 - $80000 per year + Superannuation
