CEE HydroSystems are a manufacturer of high quality hydrographic survey equipment, with a focus on shallow water surveying from small boats or personal watercraft.

Based in Hornsby, CEE HydroSystems are seeking an experienced Mechatronics Engineer to assist in the design, testing, installation and support of our hydrographic survey products and remote-controlled and autonomous vessels.

The key components of the role will be:

Design and Field Testing -

• Design and implement the autonomous and remote controls on our hydrographic survey vessels.

• Wiring and assembly of the autonomous and remote-control systems on the vessel.

• Conduct field testing in water environments to test and refine controls and analyse and tune the control systems of said vessels

• Perform hardware and software tests to ensure product quality and reliability.

• Electronics component (motors, motor controllers, etc.) selection and validation.

• Collaborate with the Engineering team to integrate hardware and software components into a complete system.

Inspection and Testing –

• Good inwards testing of received components, assemblies and completed products.

• Production testing of assembled products and reporting and correcting non-conformances.

Quality Management –

• Strict adherence to in-house production processes and quality control.

• Create and maintain internal documentation and diagrams, such as experiment logs, research documentation, test reports.

• Thoroughness and excellent attention to detail.

Education and Experience:

• A bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechatronics)

• A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Mechatronics Engineer

• Experience with ArduPilot preferable.

Skills Required:

• Knowledge of modern electronics with the ability to read complex electronic schematics and mechanical drawings.

• Knowledge of control systems and autonomous robotics and their application in water environments.

• Knowledge of the operation and uses of electronic test equipment, including oscilloscopes, logic analysers, function generators, power supplies, etc. would be an advantage.

• Good computer skills with office productivity software for e-mail, word processing and spreadsheets.

• Ability to prioritize and plan work activities and time efficiently and ability to develop realistic action plans.

• Have fault finding, problem solving and rectifying skills with a focus on accuracy and self-monitoring to ensure quality.

• Ability to work with limited direction, practical focus, ability to work under tight timelines, and a commitment to get the job done.

• Knowledge of satellite equipment and underwater systems (SONAR, echosounders) would be an advantage.

• Ability to use an environmental chamber.

• Basic CAD and 3d printing knowledge

• Basic Software development knowledge

• Be able to make wiring diagrams

• Basic Networking Knowledge in relation to routing and gateways

• Basic electronic hardware skills eg, soldering, crimping

Salary will be negotiated based on skills and experience. Salary range $80,000 - $95,000 base.
