Moonee Valley is recognised as a great place to live, work and visit, located in Melbourne’s north west and serving more than 130,000 residents and over 10,000 local businesses. As a dynamic and diverse municipality, the Council delivers a wide range of services, infrastructure and strategic initiatives that support the wellbeing and prosperity of its community. The organisation brings together diverse professional expertise, perspectives and lived experiences, guided by executive leaders who foster innovation and ensure the delivery of high-quality, future-focused outcomes.

Reporting to the Director Strategy, Planning & Climate Resilience, the Manager Advocacy, Communications & Engagement is a key leadership role responsible for shaping and delivering Council’s communications, engagement and advocacy agenda. As a member of the senior leadership team, the role leads a multidisciplinary portfolio spanning communications, media, community engagement, advocacy, grants and research, ensuring these functions are strategically aligned to Council’s long-term priorities and deliver measurable, community-focused outcomes. The position plays a critical role in strengthening Council’s voice and reputation, building trust with the community, and influencing outcomes across government and key stakeholders through effective engagement and evidence-based insight. It also drives a contemporary, customer-focused approach to service delivery, while fostering a high-performing, collaborative team culture that enables innovation, accountability and continuous improvement across the portfolio.

The successful candidate will be a strategic and politically astute leader with a proven track record leading complex, multi-disciplinary teams in communications, engagement and/or advocacy. They will bring exceptional influencing and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to navigate sensitive environments and build strong, trusted relationships across community, government and organisational levels. A strong focus on outcomes is essential, along with the ability to translate strategy into clear direction, compelling narratives and practical delivery. This is a role for a contemporary leader who fosters collaboration, drives high performance and brings a thoughtful, evidence-based approach to decision-making, with the credibility and judgement to operate effectively at an executive level.
