About the Opportunity

We’re seeking a committed Native Title Legal Officer to join a values-driven legal team based in Cairns, with flexible work-from-home options available for the right candidate.

In this role, you’ll provide legal advice and representation in native title, mining, land and sea tenure, and related areas. You’ll work closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, supporting self-determination and long-term outcomes.

No native title experience? We’re open to lawyers with experience in litigation, property, administrative law, or government advisory work and a desire to grow in a new and rewarding field.

What You'll Do

• Provide legal advice and support on native title claims, ILUAs, land use, and governance matters
• Draft legal documents including pleadings, submissions, and agreements
• Represent clients in negotiations and, where necessary, courts and tribunals
• Build strong, respectful relationships with clients and stakeholders
• Contribute to policy, governance, and capacity-building projects

What We’re Looking For

• Admitted or eligible for admission as a solicitor in Queensland
• Preferred skills (but not essential) native title, property, litigation, or public law
• Strong legal drafting and advocacy skills
• Ability to build rapport with First Nations clients and communities
• Willingness to travel to remote and regional areas as needed
