The Role

Join a team of dedicated health professionals delivering high-quality health care to members of the Australian Defence Force. Within the Allied Health function, the APS 6 Health Practice Manager works under broad direction to perform and oversee complex health administration and management activities within an integrated workforce.

In this role, you will work independently with a high degree of autonomy and accountability for achieving outcomes. You will be expected to exercise initiative and sound judgement when interpreting policy and applying relevant practices and procedures. You will provide detailed health administration, management, technical, professional and policy advice on complex matters, and contribute to strategic planning, program and project management, and policy development.

As an APS 6 Health Practice Manager, you will lead a team and be responsible for setting work priorities and managing workflows. The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day operations of the health facility and manage a wide range of administrative and coordination activities to ensure patients receive the highest possible standard of care.

Key duties include managing workforce rosters, budget allocation, and workplace health and safety requirements, as well as undertaking governance and quality assurance activities.

You will be supporting an exceptional group of health professionals who deliver GP services, Physiotherapy, Dental, Mental Health Care and Occupational Rehabilitation, along with the coordination of high-quality specialist care. Your leadership will directly shape and enhance the health outcomes achieved at the Williamtown Health Centre, making a meaningful impact every day on the wellbeing of ADF personnel.

Our Ideal Candidate

An enthusiastic self-starter, the ideal candidate will have experience in managing a health care facility and will be confident working independently. They must demonstrate sound judgment and possess the knowledge required to make decisions that prioritise patient care while complying with legislation, regulatory frameworks, and Defence policies.

As a team leader, the candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills. They will be required to build productive working relationships with a range of stakeholders, both internal and external to Defence. The ability to foster a service-focused, positive, and collaborative work culture is essential, ensuring that all team members remain aligned with shared objectives.

The ideal candidate will be flexible and adaptable. They must be comfortable managing change and responding to short-notice tasks. They will have the ability to anticipate, identify, and respond to shifting priorities. A commitment to ongoing professional development for both themselves and their team is essential. They must also be prepared to mentor and train junior staff to support optimal performance and outcomes.

This position reports to the Health Centre Manager at Williamtown Health Centre.
