FAMILY & COMMUNITY COUNSELLOR – CAIRNS, QLD
Location: Cairns, QLD (Community, Clinic & Outreach)
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Counsellor to provide trauma-informed, strength-based mental health support to individuals, families, and carers. This role offers a mix of community, clinic, outreach, and telehealth work, with flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
The Opportunity
You will provide:
- Individual and family counselling
- Brief intervention and case coordination
- Crisis support, including for clients at risk of self-harm or suicide
- Evidence-based therapy including CBT, DBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, and Open Dialogue approaches
- Facilitation of group programs tailored to community and cultural needs
- Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and local service providers
- Community engagement and capacity building with families, carers, and local stakeholders
This role focuses on strengthening resilience, supporting recovery, and improving the wellbeing of clients and their support networks.

Candidate Requirements
- Minimum Bachelor of Counselling or Psychotherapy
- Registration with ACA (level 3) or PACFA is a must
- Experience supporting people with mental health challenges and complex needs
- Right to work in Australia, current Driver’s licence, NDIS Worker Screening, Working with Children Check
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Commitment to ethical, person-centred, and culturally safe practice
