Mobil Guthalungra Roadhouse is a busy highway service stop located in Guthalungra, Queensland, serving truck drivers, travellers, tourists, and local workers. The roadhouse offers freshly prepared meals, takeaway food, and beverages in a fast-paced environment. We are currently seeking a motivated and reliable Cook to join our kitchen team.
Position Overview
The Cook will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of meals, maintaining high food quality standards, and supporting the smooth operation of the kitchen during busy service periods.
Key Responsibilities
• Inspect food ingredients to ensure freshness, quality, and suitability for cooking.
• Prepare and cook a variety of meals including breakfast items, burgers, grill foods, and takeaway dishes according to menu requirements.
• Operate and regulate kitchen equipment such as ovens, grills, fryers, and hot plates to maintain appropriate temperatures.
• Season and cook food following standard recipes and preparation methods.
• Portion meals, plate food attractively, and add sauces, gravies, and garnishes where required.
• Ensure food is stored safely in refrigerators, freezers, and other temperature-controlled facilities.
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen workstations, utensils, and cooking equipment.
• Ensure all food preparation complies with food safety and hygiene standards.
• Assist with preparing meals that meet special dietary requirements when required.
• Monitor stock levels and assist with receiving and checking deliveries of food supplies.
• Carry out basic food preparation tasks such as chopping, marinating, and portioning ingredients.
• Support the kitchen team during busy service periods to ensure timely preparation and service of meals.
• Assist with estimating ingredient requirements and maintaining adequate stock levels.
• Provide guidance and support to junior kitchen staff when required.
Skills and Experience
• Relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery or previous experience in a similar role.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
• Good understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
