Position Overview

The Chef will be responsible for overseeing kitchen operations, preparing high-quality meals, maintaining food safety standards, and ensuring efficient kitchen workflow.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Plan menus, estimate food and labour costs, and assist with menu development.
  2. Order food supplies, monitor stock levels, and manage kitchen inventory.
  3. Monitor the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation.
  4. Prepare and cook a range of meals in accordance with the menu and customer demand.
  5. Ensure food is prepared and served in a timely and consistent manner.
  6. Discuss food preparation and operational matters with management and kitchen staff.
  7. Demonstrate cooking techniques and advise staff on proper cooking procedures.
  8. Supervise kitchen operations during service periods.
  9. Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen work areas and equipment.
  10. Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and workplace health regulations.
  11. Inspect food ingredients and finished dishes to ensure quality standards are met.
  12. Assist with selecting, training, and supervising kitchen staff when required.
  13. Manage food storage procedures, including freezing, preserving, and rotating stock.
  14. Minimise food wastage and maintain cost control within the kitchen.

Skills and Experience

  1. Relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery or a related field.
  2. Previous experience working as a Chef in a commercial kitchen.
  3. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage kitchen operations.
  4. Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices.
  5. Good communication and teamwork skills.
