About the role

We are searching for an experienced Chef to join our team at The Mustard Seed in Mount Gambier SA 5290. As a fulltime Chef, you will be responsible for preparing high-quality meals and providing an exceptional dining experience for our customers. What you'll be doing

Menu Planning and Development

• Design and update menus in line with business concept and customer preferences

• Incorporate seasonal produce and accommodate dietary requirements

• Develop innovative dishes while maintaining consistency and quality

Food Preparation and Cooking

• Prepare and cook a wide range of dishes to a high standard

• Ensure consistency in taste, portion control, and presentation

• Apply appropriate cooking techniques and methods across all menu items

Kitchen Management

• Supervise and coordinate kitchen staff, including training and rostering

• Maintain efficient workflow and ensure smooth kitchen operations

• Uphold cleanliness, organisation, and kitchen discipline

Inventory and Ordering

• Monitor stock levels and manage food inventory effectively

• Order ingredients and kitchen supplies as required

• Ensure proper storage and rotation of stock in line with food safety standards

Quality Control

• Inspect food preparation processes and ensure high-quality output

• Check freshness of ingredients and ensure proper handling and storage

• Taste and evaluate dishes prior to service

Health and Safety Compliance

• Ensure compliance with food hygiene, sanitation, and safety regulations

• Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment at all times

• Adhere to local health and workplace safety standards

Cost Control and Budgeting

• Control food costs through effective portioning and waste minimisation

• Assist in budgeting, cost estimation, and pricing of menu items

• Maintain profitability while ensuring quality standards

Collaboration and Communication

• Coordinate with front-of-house staff to ensure timely service

• Communicate effectively with kitchen team members

• Support a positive and productive team environment

What we're looking for

  1. Relevant qualifications (Minimum Cert IV in Cookery) and minimum 1 year experience as a Chef
  2. Proven track record of preparing high-quality meals in a fast-paced environment
  3. Excellent time management and organisational skills
  4. Strong attention to detail and commitment to food safety
  5. Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  6. Passion for creating delicious, visually appealing dishes
