JobScout Pty Ltd are working to assist our client, Haimi's Group Pty Ltd t/a The Merchants Guild Cafe, who operates a popular cafe dining destination. The cafe is committed to delivering a consistent dining experience that ensures customers are satisfied with their meal every time, maintaining a healthy repeat customer base. With a focus on quality food prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients and exceptional service, The Merchants Guild Cafe has become a favourite spot for both locals and visitors.

Our client is now seeking a skilled Chef to join their kitchen team. The role is full time and ongoing, requiring shifts across the week and weekend.

Responsibilities of our Chef will include:

  1. Work with the Head Chef to plan and revise regular and specials menus, considering customer feedback and sales volumes of specific dishes.
  2. Cook and prepare meals to agreed standards, ensuring all dishes are prepared to the highest quality.
  3. Demonstrate cooking techniques to other cooks and junior kitchen staff.
  4. Monitor dish preparation of less senior cooking staff during service.
  5. Maintain high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and safety throughout all kitchen areas at all times.
  6. Ensure all aspects of work health and safety and operational procedures are followed at all times.
  7. Manage OHS risks and keep accurate records of all OHS matters.
  8. Assist with setting appropriate budgets for menu items in accordance with parameters agreed by the business.
  9. Estimate food purchasing requirements to optimise profitability while ensuring the cafe can cater to varying seasonal demands.
  10. Ensure the purchase of seasonal ingredients at optimal pricing and from local suppliers where possible.
  11. Ensure ongoing compliance with legislation including HACCP requirements and established business policies and procedures.
  12. Minimise food costs, waste, and theft through effective portion control and stock management.
  13. Monitor food presentation and plating, ensuring consistency across all dishes.
  14. Coordinate with front-of-house staff to manage special dietary requirements and ensure customer needs are met.
  15. Create a harmonious work environment amongst all staff.

To be successfully considered for the role, you:

  1. Possess an AQF associate degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma in Cookery or related field.
  2. At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for formal qualifications. In some instances, relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification.
  3. Have at least 3+ years professional experience as a Chef.
  4. Have experience in menu planning and costing.
  5. Are available across the working week and weekends.
  6. Possess a thorough understanding of food safety and HACCP.
  7. Understand cost control, time management, prioritisation, and cost-efficient procurement practices.
  8. Have a passion for producing consistent high-quality meals.
  9. Have excellent knowledge and experience in all basic cooking techniques and styles.
  10. Have a strong background in utilising fresh local ingredients.
  11. Maintain a professional attitude in the kitchen at all times.
  12. Have a creative eye for detail and 'can do' attitude.
  13. Are a team player who can communicate effectively with your team and other staff members.
