Mai Gai is a vibrant restaurant located in Everton Plaza, Everton Park, offering a unique Southeast Asian dining experience inspired by the cuisines of Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia and Vietnam. Known for its bold and adventurous flavours, Mai Gai brings together sweet, salty, sour and spicy elements in a lively and modern hospitality setting. The restaurant offers a dynamic food-and-beverage experience and focuses on delivering high-quality, tasty dishes in a fast-paced commercial kitchen environment.

Mai Gai is seeking a motivated Chef to join our kitchen team full-time, working 38 hours per week.

We are looking for a committed and experienced chef to support kitchen operations and contribute to the preparation and presentation of high-quality food in a busy commercial kitchen.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  1. Plan and organise the preparation and cooking of food for daily service
  2. Prepare, cook and present a variety of dishes to a consistently high standard
  3. Assist in menu planning and the development of dishes in line with business needs
  4. Estimate food requirements and assist with ordering and stock control
  5. Monitor the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation, cooking and presentation
  6. Ensure food is prepared and served in accordance with hygiene and food safety standards
  7. Supervise kitchen operations during service and assist in coordinating kitchen staff
  8. Instruct, support and train kitchen staff in food preparation, cooking procedures and safe work practices
  9. Assist in training new kitchen personnel
  10. Maintain a clean, organised and efficient kitchen environment
  11. Work closely with management to help ensure smooth kitchen operations and consistent food quality

To be considered for this role, applicants must have:

  1. A Diploma or higher in Kitchen Management
  2. At least 2 to 3 years of relevant work experience
  3. Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and kitchen operations
  4. Good understanding of food safety and hygiene requirements
  5. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced team environment
  6. A positive attitude, good communication skills and a motivated approach to kitchen work
