ABOUT THE ROLE
This newly created Assistant Accountant position plays a crucial role in supporting core finance and payroll operations across the group. You’ll manage weekly payroll, assist with accounts, reconciliations, and practitioner payments. Working closely with the Finance Manager, you’ll be part of a close-knit team making a real impact during an exciting growth phase!
DUTIES
- Prepare and process weekly payroll using Xero
- Manage accounts payable and receivable
- Conduct bank and balance sheet reconciliations
- Assist with doctor payments across practices
- Support month-end reporting and compliance tasks
- Maintain accurate employee records, entitlements, and superannuation payments
- Ensure adherence to payroll legislation and relevant awards (e.g., HSU)
- Train others on payroll and payment systems as needed
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in an accounting or payroll role
- Strong proficiency in Xero and reconciliation processes
- Sound knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, including PAYG, Super, and tax
- Ability to work independently and hit the ground running
- Excellent attention to detail and a proactive mindset
- Healthcare or medical sector experience (preferred but not essential)
- No CPA qualification required
- Demonstrates a positive, can-do attitude who readily adjusts to shifting priorities, and is trusted by peers and leaders alike
