Working Days: 2 days one week, 3 days the next (7-hour days)
Employment Type: Casual, Part-Time, 6 month contract
About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Temp Assistant Accountant to join our team on a part-time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong accounting experience and a passion for contributing to a purpose-driven organisation. You will be supporting daily financial operations, reporting, compliance, and process improvement initiatives across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Transactions, Payables, Receivables & Payroll
- Process and reconcile accounts payable, ensuring timely and accurate supplier payments
- Manage accounts receivable: issue invoices and follow up on outstanding debts
- Collect and process employee credit card and expense claims
- Process payroll and ensure compliance with relevant employment and tax regulations
- Maintain the fixed asset register, including acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation
Reconciliation & Compliance
- Complete bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Prepare and post journals for accruals, prepayments, and adjustments
- Support the preparation of GST, IAS, and FBT returns
- Assist with end-of-month and year-end processes, including audits and acquittals
Reporting & Forecasting
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reports
- Contribute to budgeting and cash flow forecasting through accurate inputs and analysis
- Identify and recommend improvements to accounting processes and systems
Projects & Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with internal teams on cross-functional finance projects
- Maintain and update the Chart of Accounts and cost center structure
- Support finance system improvements and assist with new ERP implementation
- Take on other ad hoc tasks and projects as needed
About You
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar Accountant role (month-end experience essential)
- Prior experience working in the not-for-profit sector highly regarded
- Progress toward CPA or CA qualification will be highly valued
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Xero or MYOB (both preferred)
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills (including VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables)
- Familiarity with accounting regulations and compliance requirements
- Experience in system implementation will be highly regarded
Soft Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Highly organised with a proactive, can-do attitude
